Happy Birthday, Harry!!!As I've been trying to watch more Booktube to get inspiration for my posts (and because there are a handful of booktubers that I just love to follow), one I stumbled on (from a while ago now) was @polandbananasbooks' "Sorting Books into Hogwarts houses." As I'm a fan of all things Harry Potter, I figured this could be fun!! So here it is: I'm going to take the names of all of my reads so far this year and put them in a hat to draw 10 books to sort (you'll have to trust me since I'm not recording myself. I promise these are random choices!). 15. Made to Stick by Chip & Dan Heath - RavenclawMade to Stick definitely fits with the Ravenclaw values of knowledge and wisdom. The whole point of this book is to help the reader understand the characteristics of ideas and stories that make them stick in the minds of others. Ravenclaws would love this book, because they love to learn and it would help them know how to communicate with others and make their intelligent ideas last. 6. Scarlet by Marissa Meyer - GryffindorScarlet is the second book of Marissa Meyer's Lunar Chronicles. In this "Little Red Riding Hood" retelling, Scarlet meets a street fighter named Wolf who helps her to find her grandmother. This story of a young woman's bravery in standing up for what she believes in and for the family that she has left just screams Gryffindor. The courage both Scarlet and Wolf show throughout the book is admirable, though sometimes downright stupid (which very much reminds me of the Gryffindor house). 11. Miss Peregrines Home for peculiar children by ransom riggs - HufflepuffMiss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is more of a feel-good, awkward but lasting friendships-type book. This makes me think of Hufflepuffs. There are definitely a lot of bravery themes through the book, but the focus is more on the relationships and friendships built. I also just think of some of the scenes that revolve around food or meals, which also reminds me of the Hufflepuffs and their love for food and fellowship around the dinner table. 23. Be You. Do Good. By Jonathan David Golden - HufflepuffBe You. Do Good. is all about finding your purpose. Being yourself, finding your calling, and doing good in the world around you. This goes along with the whole Hufflepuff, being kind and doing good. 1. The Queen's Lady by Barbara Kyle - SlytherinThere are so many lies and so much deceit to work toward the goals set out in The Queen's Lady. The main character must be deceitful and cunning to survive and help her queen. Not only that, but it seems like everyone else around her has to use the same characteristics as well. Everyone is working toward different goals with different motives and using one another as much as possible to achieve those goals. The themes in this book really just remind me of the cunning Slytherin house. 12. Cress by Marissa Meyer - RavenclawAnother Lunar Chronicles installment (#3), Cress is very obviously Ravenclaw to me (both the book and the character). Cress herself is an amazing coder and hacker. Though she doesn't know how to handle social situations, she is still so intelligent. The book as a whole also focuses on a lot of strategizing to take down the evil Queen Levana. Throughout the story, the characters have to work together, using their separate knowledge to come together and create a major plan to overcome the queen and stop a marriage. 28. A wrinkle in time by madeleine L'engle - GryffindorThroughout A Wrinkle in Time, the characters are pushed to their limit of courage. Meg and Charles go on a search to find their father and bring him back to their family. Soon, they find out that their father hadn't just disappeared on a work mission, but he disappeared across space and time. Charles, and his character, doesn't have much of a problem stepping into the unknown with Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which. Meg on the other hand is not on board, yet she will do anything to save her father and bring him back. 17. Winter by Marissa Meyer - RavenclawAs with Cress, I believe that Winter, the fourth book in the Lunar Chronicles, would also be sorted into Ravenclaw. Winter is the crazy Ravenclaw. Okay, not necessarily crazy. Eccentric. Like Luna Lovegood. As with Cress, there is a lot of strategizing involved in Winter, so I would definitely say this fits into Ravenclaw. Winter as a character is so very brilliant, but she is also going crazy because of the Lunar disease. I just love that she knows that she is going crazy and just embraces it. I feel like that is what a true Ravenclaw would do. 22. Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee - SlytherinI would say that Go Set a Watchman would be sorted into Slytherin. The reason I say this is because throughout this whole book, Scout is questioning if she can trust her family. She's been gone so long, and views and civil unrest have changed her small hometown. One day when she walks into a town meeting, she hears her father and the boy she has been dating for a while share their views that are completely contrary to what Scout believes is right. The entire book, she is battling her views and trying to handle the betrayal she feels. 27. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by j.K. Rowling - GryffindorThe first installment of the Harry Potter series should be sorted into Gryffindor. I truly feel this book is a book of finding yourself and learning to be brave. Harry and his friends may not necessarily start out with the characteristics of a Gryffindor, but by the end, they each exemplify the bravery associated with the red and gold house.

Why I picked itI wanted a light-hearted and semi-short audiobook to listen to. A lot of times, I look through the available audiobooks on Libby/Bridges until I find something that tickles my fancy. This one was actually on my Goodreads Want to Read shelf, so I searched for it and it happened to be available! summaryHadley is not ready to go to London for her dad's second wedding. So when she misses her flight by minutes, she's frustrated and knows that her dad will assume it's because of her unwillingness to come (though that doesn't really play a part in her lateness). Luckily at the airport, she gets stuck with a perfect British boy, Oliver, and they hit it off right away. He helps her distract herself from her anxiety on the plane and just talks to her about his (fictional) research projects and different random parts of his life. Getting off the plane, Hadley is sad that she will likely never see Oliver again, but the go their own ways to their own events and say goodbye. When she finally makes it to the wedding, she learns that the new stepmom isn't quite as bad as she thought. But that doesn't mend her relationship with her dad. After some conflict, she starts learning that she can still be a part of her dad's life, even if he is moving onto another chapter of his own life. what i likedHadley and Oliver have a sweet and also fun relationship right from the beginning. Oliver is a goof and never really gives Hadley any straight answers, but she gives him plenty of crap and sarcasm back, so they work perfectly together. Obviously, by the name of the book, you can tell that some romance will happen, and it's so cute to watch that develop throughout the book. I also like the difficulties that Hadley is going through with the adjustment to her parents' divorce and her dad's impending second marriage. She's confused and sad and upset, and she's trying to work through that throughout this book. what I didn't likeThough a lot happened in the (approximately) 24ish hours that this book happens in, it still is a lot of the same things that are happening, just in different ways. It was also a pretty typical YA romance. I used to love stories like this, but I think I'm getting either too mature for them or getting a little more picky about the ones I read. Overall Impression 🌟🌟🌟Like I said above, I think I'm getting a little more picky with my YA romance novels, so I liked it, but it definitely didn't wow me, and it wasn't my favorite. If you like YA romance, you'll probably enjoy this book!
Why i picked itI decided to read My Hero Academia because one of my fav BookTubers, JessetheReader, is doing Manga Mondays every other week, and this was the first one he did a discussion video on (check it out here!). I've only read a couple graphic novels: Tea Dragon Society and Mouse Guard: Fall 1152. I was a big fan of one, and not so much of the other, so I decided that I would give manga a try, especially since I'd heard a lot about My Hero Academia and Death Note! summary Izuku Midoriya is a middle school student in a world where 80% of the population have "quirks" (or superhero abilities), so it's just a normalcy now. Unfortunately, Midoriya is one of the quirkless, but he has big dreams of going to U.A. High School, a selective school for budding heroes. what i likedI actually really loved this manga! I wasn't sure what I was going to think going into it. But I loved Horikoshi's voice that came through each of the characters and the different insight portions and character profiles. Between the manga issues, Horikoshi will do a character profile and show a certain character (normally one that was recently introduced) and give random facts on the character (likes & dislikes, etc.). Horikoshi has such a unique and humorous voice, so I love seeing those. He even ties that into the manga itself as well. Another thing I love is the world. I think the idea of 80% of the population having quirks and abilities is super cool. Because what really would happen if superpowers were actually the norm? Midoriya is a cute character and has such an endearing quality of being a MAJOR geek when it comes to heroes. He's always geeking out every time he sees a hero. He's also a dreamer. Even without a quirk, he's determined to make it into U.A. High School. He pushes himself to the limit and pushes past the haters to eventually go and take the entrance exam at the High School. You can watch him grow from a middle school geek to a more mature, going-into-high-school geek. The other characters each have such unique personalities too, and I have started to fall into love (and hatred) with each one of them! They have unique abilities, and it's fun to get to know each one of the characters and the different capabilities they have with their quirks! what i didn't likeReally, I didn't have a lot of dislikes. I tried to take my time and enjoy the graphics. I guess the biggest thing was just it was definitely an adjustment to start reading from right to left instead of left to right. But it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, and the book was a pleasant surprise! overall impression 🌟🌟🌟🌟Since this is one of the first mangas I've ever read, I’m really happy and excited that I loved it! I’m excited to continue on with the series and see what happens with Jesse's discussion videos and posts! I think Jesse did a good job of picking something fun and light to read and discuss, and it's something that I think most people would enjoy!
The End5 books in 21 hours!I didn't quite make it! 21 hours of reading happened this weekend, and it was amazing. I may not have made it to the 24 hours I was hoping for, but I was still able to ramp up my reading again since I've been in a kind-of slump for the last month and a half. This weekend I was able to finish the 3 books I was in the middle of when we started, as well as finishing another 2!! If a weekend like that doesn't get me closer to my *new* goal of 70 books by the end of the year, I don't know what will! So the books I finished include:
I also attempted to do a vlog of my experience this weekend. I'm not exactly sure how that went, so we will see in a couple of days when I get around to pulling the clips together and editing it! When I get it done, I will link to it here! July 20 - 4:15 pm (CST) - Hour SeventeenMini freak out coming your way...Hour seventeen and I have a total of six hours and seventeen minutes of reading done so far. I really need to get on this, or I won't be able to finish! It looks like it'll be another semi-late night tonight to see how much reading I can get in! Part of the problem is that I have to lead worship at church tomorrow, so those 4 hours plus sleeping time, I need to pretty much be reading during every chance I get to make the 24 hours I need. I've "wasted" almost half of my 24 idle hours already! Ahh! Okay, now that that's over, time for an update. So, I have been able to finish the three books that I was in the middle of when we started late last night: My Hero Academia, Vol. 2, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight have all been completed. I also was able to take a quick (but very nice) walk to the library to pick up the next My Hero Academia installment as well as Thunderhead, the second book in Neil Shusterman's Arc of the Scythe series. My plan now is to start Scythe and read that for at least an hour, and then I will move on to an audiobook again so I can do some meal prep/planning and clean a room of the apartment (we will see what I have ambition to do...). I hope your weekend is going as well as mine so far! July 20 - 1:45 AM (CST) - Hour TwoIt's bedtime! I've gotten just short of 2 hours of reading in so far. I finished My Hero Academia, Volume 2 in the first half hour. I also made it 125 pages in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban tonight. But it is getting late, and I'm not used to being up so long. I'm going to have to get ready for bed, maybe read just a little bit more, and give myself a break. I'll see all you lovelies in the morning! July 19 - 11:00 PM (CST) - Hour zeroIt's that time of year again! This time during #24in28, I actually can participate fully instead of feeling bad not spending time with Corgan like last time! He has to work both tomorrow and Sunday. So, I've got my snacks, books, audiobooks, and reading spot ready!! I drank some coffee and ate some chocolate to help give me energy and stay up a bit later than normal and do some reading before getting to sleep. So, I decided that along with blogging this weekend, I will try to vlog my experience as well!! I'm not going to start a Booktube channel or anything. Just make a few short, fun videos for my blog here in case you'd rather watch my journey than read about it. I'm not going to do vlogs very often, but I figured I start doing some once in a while. We'll see how it goes! My #24in48 TBRSo, I'm in the middle of 3 books right now: a reread, a manga, and an audio book. I'm going to try to finish my reread of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and the manga, My Hero Academia Volume 2, tonight before I go to bed. Then, I have Scythe by Neil Shusterman to start tomorrow, and I've heard from a friend that I need to go pick up the second book in the series tomorrow because I'll want to jump right in after I finish the first one. I also have a few audiobooks ready so that I can do some cleaning and meal prep this weekend while still participating in the readathon. I'm about 1/3 of the way through The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith, so I'll finish that tomorrow, probably. Then I got Ellen Degeneres' autobiography, Seriously...I'm Kidding, to move onto when I finish Smith's book. And then, just in case I need more listening materials, I also rented The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. If you want to join, it's not too late. Sign up, grab a book, and join us!!
