Why I picked itI had heard so many amazing things about Eleanor and Park. I was excited for a YA Contemporary Romance, and I thought it would be easy to listen to, so I used my Libby app and checked out the audiobook! SummaryEleanor is weird. From the first time she gets on the bus at her new school, she stands out. Not that she wants to. She'd much rather be ignored. She knows it's how she will survive, both at school and at home. Park also tries his best to fit in and lay low. After being forced upon one another, they start learning that they actually have a few things in common. He shares his nerdy obsessions with her and she does the same for him. It's not long before they become more than friends. The problem is that Eleanor can't let Park in on all of her family's secrets and Park doesn't understand that. What I likedI really enjoyed the book as a whole. The high school relationship is just perfect. The awkward beginning, the giving each other a hard time, it all just reminds me of my husband and I when we first started dating (and even a little bit now too!). I just felt like I could relate to a lot of the relationship things that happened in this book. Rowell captured a high school romance perfectly. I'm a bit partial, but I love that this book is set in Omaha. I feel like there aren't enough books set in the Midwest, but that's just me, a Midwestern girl. You know, nothing exists between the coasts (a phrase I heard from a French exchange student to describe her thoughts about the U.S. before she got placed in an Iowa high school for a year). I like that something finally features the Heartland, even if it's a city in the Heartland. Another thing I loved is the character development in this novel. Both Eleanor and Park go through some major developments and maturing through this book, and it's fun to see them go through that together. What I didn't LikeThere wasn't a whole lot that I didn't enjoy in this book. I liked the nerdiness, the struggles both Park and Eleanor go through. Maybe one thing I didn't like was the whole family situation with Eleanor where her siblings actually start to tolerate their step-father. I feel like some of them would at least be on Eleanor's side once in a while, but it's just her against the world most of the time. Given. I think that's a large part of the story, so I don't think I would've preferred it any other way. There were just some times that I thought it would be more realistic if they were a little more wary of their "dad". Overall Impression 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟I truly enjoyed this book. I had heard so many great things in the Bookstagram and Booktube worlds that I was a little worried that my expectations would be too high. But no, Rainbow Rowell did not disappoint. I felt like I knew Eleanor and Park well and that I could be friends with them. I'm going to have to keep reading Rainbow Rowell's works!
