2019 is Halfway Over?!?!?!Hey, Bookstafam! How's life treating you?? Sorry I disappeared again for a bit. I was recruited to be a camp counselor for a week. I had tons of fun (maybe more than the kids at some points), but I'm glad to be back again! I figured today I would check in with you all and let you know how I'm doing on my bookish goals for 2019! Reading goal Check-InWith the wedding and some of the other events going on this year, I was pretty sure I'd only get through a couple of books a month on average, so I made my goal in January to read 25 books throughout 2019. Well...I surpassed that. Already. By quite a bit. According to Goodreads, I've read 32 books this year equaling 10,863 pages. That's 7 books more than I planned to read this whole year and we are only halfway through!!! Okay, so there are a couple of reasons why I've been able to consume books so much faster this year: 1) I have time. Particularly at the beginning of the year while I still was "single" and living alone, I had plenty of time to just read. I also took the opportunity to babysit and used that time for my reading time too since the kids would often go to bed an hour before I left. 2) I've started listening to audiobooks. I'm getting better at being able to follow and listen to audiobooks, which has helped me get through some books faster. I've learned that I can't listen to many fantasy books, but when it comes to poetry, contemporary, and biographies, listening while I do chores or drive has been great. 3) I have read a few shorter books this year including graphic novels, mangas, and poetry books. I started realizing that I barely look at books that are less than 200 pages when they're on a shelf. However, I still enjoy a lot of these books! Just because it's bigger, doesn't mean it's better, and I'm learning that. I think that by the end of the year, I can read a total of 70 books. Especially with the audiobooks and graphic novels/mangas that I've started reading lately.
With that goal of another 38 books, I hope to add in at least one more poetry book and at least one more nonfiction book. Plus a couple of mangas. Otherwise, I'm still up in the air for the rest. There's a series I'd really like to read, and I'm finishing up a reread of the Harry Potter series too.
