Why I Picked ItOnce upon a time, I thought I'd be able to participate in the NEWTs Magical Readathon throughout August. I was wrong. So, I wanted to be a part of the NEWTs Readathon, but I was SO BUSY and I kind of got into a reading slump. This book was the first audiobook I listened to in August (SOOO LONG AGO. OMG I NEED TO CATCH UP ON THIS BLOG) that was going to fulfill one of my NEWTs requirements. This is a nice classic, and it starts with the letter A, so I picked it! SummaryAlice is bored one summer day until she sees a peculiar white rabbit with a pocket watch and decides to follow it into a whole other world. There, Alice runs into many crazy creatures and has once-in-a-lifetime experiences. She grows as big as a house, as small as a mouse, participates in a dinner, a game of croquet with an insane queen, meets a cat that appears and disappears at will, and so many other things. (I'm going to be honest, it was forever ago since I listened to this, and it's such a random book that it's hard to remember absolutely everything that happened…). What I LikedI feel like this is such a classic and has so many retellings/adaptations that I can't help but love it. I've always thought that the setting and characters are so intriguing and fun. It makes me happy to read something so lighthearted, fun, and non-serious. I listened to it in just a few days, and it was perfect to start out my August reading (even if the month didn't turn out great for reading…). I've always loved the Cheshire Cat. He has the best quotes and is so philosophical and mysterious. I think he's got to be my favorite character. But all of the characters throughout the book are so intriguing. They are really what makes the book so great. Something that I always kind of knew about the Queen of Hearts was that she was crazy and wanted to separate almost everyone from their heads. However, I feel like in the book she is just that much crazier. Almost anything that happens, her immediate reaction is "off with their heads!" She actually kind of made me laugh because she was just so ridiculous. What I Didn't LikeThis was another audiobook that I felt okay with missing parts of, similar to All We Have Is Now. This could be because I felt like I already knew a lot of the book from the other adaptations, but it also was because I didn't care too much when I did miss pieces. I knew that it wouldn't confuse me or make me get totally lost in the book, so it didn't bother me. Also, maybe I missed something, but I feel like there really isn't a whole lot of an arc to the story. The whole thing is good: Alice is wandering in running into crazy situations and having to figure out a way out. But otherwise, I feel like there isn't a lot of substance in terms of a plotline. Maybe I'll have to reread (and physically read) it again and see if I catch more than listening to it… Overall Impression 🌟🌟🌟🌟I still love Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. It's a wonderful classic in my opinion, and one that I'd be more than willing to read again, so 4/5 stars. Actually, now that I think of it, I'd LOVE to see a graphic novel or illustrated version…anyone know of one out there I could read????
